About the Club:
Salmon Falls River Beagle Club was organized and formed in August 1952, in a southern Maine town called Lebanon. The club was originally formed with 12 members and quickly grew from there. Our first AKC field trial was held in October 1955. We still have family members as active members from some of the original founding members.
Our first sanctioned small pack was organized and held sometime in the late '70s, it was winter trial and always drew large entries. It was a big deal to come to Salmon Falls and place in the Small Pack on snow. The sanctioned small pack on snow continued through 2015.
July 2000 we held our first Licensed Small Pack Option, through the years it was been moved from July to May due to the hot humid summer and preserving our game. This is always a big trial for us. We have always welcome trialers from Maine, NH, VT, MA, CT, NY, RI, PA, Canada, and MI has even attended. I strive to hire judges from afar to bring variety and new faces to our area.
We are honored to have 3 runnings areas: 1 150 acres, 1 60 acres, and 1 110 acres. Two of the three grounds are right at our clubhouse. We have several dedicated members consistently maintaining fences and trails. Our current membership is hovering around 49 with over half dedicated to trapping hare to stock in our areas.
The objective of Salmon Falls is to encourage the breeding of the purebred beagle and to develop and bring to perfection their natural high qualities. The club shall do all its power to protect and advance the interest in the breed of the beagle hound, on the bench or in the field by holding bench shows or field trials under the rules and regulations of the American Kennel Club.
